Hair transplant surgery is considered to be a last resort for those who suffer hair loss because aside from it being invasive, it is also very costly. But a lot of patients affected with male pattern baldness are more confident in the success of the procedure nowadays due to the marked improvement in the techniques and the equipment’s used. In 2012, there are 3, 820 procedures performed in Australia (ISHRS, Practice Census 2013).

FUE and FUT Hair Transplant Cost
The cost of your hair transplant surgery will be established after the consultation. The surgeon will first ask for the health history and then perform physical assessment. It is after this assessment where an estimate of the cost is drafted. Since each patient is different, the cost of the procedure to treat the problem would also vary.
During the consultation the surgeon will come with the pricing based on the current loss, the donor region, donor flexibility, length of donor grafts, and follicular units. This will sum up the work that needs to be done which will be outlined in a surgical plan.
But when it comes to determining the price, the number of grafts needed and the type of surgical hair restoration procedure should first be determined. Follicular Unit Transplantation or FUT is the traditional approach in hair transplant surgery. It got its moniker as the strip method because the procedure requires the removal of a piece of the scalp from back of the head which contains the donor hair grafts. This procedure is cheaper and this is counted by individual hair grafts. FUT would cost approximately $3-$4 per graft.
However the prices also vary on how many grafts you are going to use for your procedure. Therefore you can see general prices for hair grafts to be within $3-$8 apiece.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Follicular Unit Extraction requires a more tedious process. This is the individual removal of hair grafts directly from the scalp. That is why this technique is more expensive with a price range of $4-$5 per graft. This would also depend on the number of grafts you would need for full coverage.
Hair Transplant Revision
In surgical hair transplant, the most expensive procedure is the revision hair transplant. It takes more work to correct a poor outcome than starting a primary procedure. That is why hair surgeons charge more for this, and the rate would also depend on the amount of remedy that needs to be done.
There is no regular price for hair transplant revisions because this will be set during the consultation. That is why it pays to invest on a good surgeon at the beginning in order to avoid corrective procedures later on.
In some cases where the same surgeon may deem it necessary to make corrective work, sometimes they do this free of charge. Also, for patients who may need additional work done, appropriate charges will also apply, but this would be relatively cheaper than the first procedure.
